The Rosary

29 September 2000 19:50

Many will be starting, today, September 29, a novena of prayer in preparation for October 8th when the Pope will officially entrust the world and the entire third Millennium to Mary (see the forum message of September 14th).

The day before, the Pope will pray the rosary along with a large proportion of all the bishops in the Catholic Church who will be gathered in Rome for their Jubilee celebrations.

There are over 70 references to the rosary in the TLIG messages.

Copied below is a contribution from Mary Zore:

During the past summer I discovered information about the Universal Living Rosary of St. Philomena. St Philomena is the Patron of all of Mary’s children. The Universal Living Rosary of St Philomena is a Church sanctioned and blessed organization in which thousands sign up world wide for a life long commitment of praying one rosary decade a day and in so doing unite themselves in a ‘living rosary’ comprised of many people world wide. The power of this ‘united prayer’ and its potential is acknowledged by the church through many indulgences granted those who sign up for a decade.

While I was passing out some pamplets to people in a church who I knew may be interested in this it ocurred to me that a ‘living rosary’, even on a Parish level could encourage and reintroduce the rosary to people who had lost touch with praying it. Upon leaving the church I found the whole air was filled with the smell of roses as if it were saturated with roses. I took this as a sign that the idea of starting a Parish Living rosary was a pleasing one to the Blessed Mother. I mentioned it to some other people and we went as a group to ask permission from our Pastor. During this period I also prayed to God and asked for a passage from the bible about the rosary. The scripture verse “Ezekiel 3:13” came into my head as I was praying about this. Not really being completely assured that everything which pops into my head is from God, I looked up the passage to see if it did indeed seem to talk about the rosary. The scripture passage reads as follows:

” …the noise made by the wings of the living creatures striking one another, and by the wheels alongside them, a loud rumbling.”

The passage puzzled me and I was very uncertain whether it indeed was about the rosary. I pondered upon it all day long and fell asleep wondering about how it could be a description of the rosary. The next morning I woke up and it was like the puzzle resolved itself and all of a sudden it made perfect sense! The rosary is a prayer wheel….a prayer which has a kind of circuit, a revolutionary path. In that sense the rosary is a wheel of prayer, and the fact that it is made up of “Angelic Salutations” made it even more a ‘wheel of the winged creatures’ in a sense. It seemed to me that the scripture passage did indeed describe beautifully the rosary as a prayer, and perhaps all prayers and chaplets which use holy words and aspirations in a repetative, circular form. We become “winged creatures’ as we lift up these prayers in a heart felt way joining in the unending angelic praises.

Perhaps we could all commit ourselves to praying one decade a day for Vassula and Church unity as well and have an ongoing “True Life in God” living rosary as well.

God Bless,
Mary
