Egypt
At Vassula’s request, Carol Chamberlain writes from Egypt:
Dear TLIG Family,
I am writing to you from Cairo, Egypt, where I have had, and still have, the privilege of living and working since September 14 last year. I arrived to take up my present job here only three days after the events in New York. Despite many doubts and any apprehensions that I, my family and friends may have had, I have to share with you that, since being here, I have never felt safer in my life. The only thing I have to fear is eating too much of the wonderful food that is difficult to resist.
Last year before coming to Egypt, I had another wonderful privilege. That of working in Rome with Vassula assisting her wherever I could in the huge mission that she has said, “yes to” and that she under takes on a daily basis at great personal cost but one with which I have only observed she does with joy and gladness.
In that year, I assisted Vassula with the initial preparation for the pilgrimage to Egypt, going through all the applications for registering, contacting many associations around the world and other things like this. I had no idea that I would be posted out to Egypt to work only 6 months later. I feel that all things considered, this can only be all God’s plan, as I now find myself assisting to get things organised for what I understand is a wonderful treat that Jesus has in store for us here.
It is therefore the main reason that I write, as I feel people need to be reassured that Jesus has invited us yet again, in His amazing Love, to participate if we can, in this wonderful journey through the Holy Land of Egypt. I am writing this so that you are aware that the streets in Egypt are safer that the streets of Unites States, United Kingdom and many other countries, that are able to report countless crimes and misdemeanours taking place on them daily.
The Egyptians are warm friendly and extremely hospitable people. They want nothing more than visitors to come and enjoy and experience their country and to be treated with the hospitality that Egyptians are renowned for.
I live in the centre of Cairo and have never witnessed any animosity towards non Egyptians and have certainly never witnessed or experienced any visible violence or aggression except that of the thousands of drivers on the road who all jockey for position to see who can get in the fastest lane on the streets. There are over 16 million people living here, so I believe that this speaks volumes.
I have also travelled extensively with my work in Upper Egypt where we will be travelling to and feel even more secure since it is Egyptian law that all foreigners, i.e. non Egyptians, are provided with personal Tourist Police Guards for visiting purposes. The only thing that this means is that you have to share your chewing gum out!
Please therefore be reassured and so do not be afraid of coming to Egypt on what I hope and believe will be truly another gift from Heaven for the TLIG Family.
