Presentation in Iwakuni

27 January 1999 10:43

A few weeks ago a request for prayer was forwarded to this list on behalf of Angela Uchida who was due to give a presentation to a mixed gathering in Iwakuni, Japan.

A thank you letter and report from Angela follows, but first of all Bernard Kuhn gives a little introduction:

Angela showed a lot of courage, since she does not speak English at all, a few words excepted. She went to Iwakuni all by herself and I am sure she was a worthy echo of TLIG messages there. The presence of the Adversary helps to certify that. On that very day (Saturday the 9th) it was extremely cold and Angela had to wait for a long time on the platform for the much delayed train. Once it was there, for trying to catch up with lost time, they closed the train’s doors too quickly and Angela got caught between them. She had a broken tooth for that, her arm and shoulder aching very much then (even now). Angela is a tough apostle and she deserves our prayers. Let’s praise the Lord for His Great Deeds.

Angela is working as a language teacher at the local TV station and she is pretty confident to land there an opportunity for Vassula to talk on the local TV broadcast during her next visit to Japan. Can I make an appeal for our TLIG readers to get to their rosaries?

My sincere thanks to everyone in TLIG for the great help of prayer that accompanied me during my first public presentation of a few pages of the first notebook of TLIG messages.

Initially I had accepted the invitation to talk in Japanese to a study group on cultural exchanges with foreigners in the main hall of the city of Iwakuni which is 40 kms away from Hiroshima on the theme of Peace and Unity in the various cultures. Since Iwakuni is the location of an American military base, I was also asked to speak in English, be it for a few minutes only, even though I do not speak it well at all. The reason why I chose and prepared myself for reading the first few pages of TLIG was for it is there that we find the very best explanation of what true Peace is!

Thus we may say that a culture is only true sign of civilization when it helps all its people to meet Peace, Joy and Love that come from Jesus Christ. In short, those present seemed to be very interested and asked me many questions (in English, too, as among the present, almost 40 people, there were a few American). I could understand and reply in English, Jesus and Mary worked a miracle! Praise and thanks to Them.

All of those present were much interested in the books of TLIG which I had brought along with me, particularly the picture with the Face of Jesus struck them. Of course, I also had to talk about the Holy Shroud of Turin. Someone, a protestant, asked me to come to the TLIG prayer group meetings we are having in Hiroshima. But Buddhists and Shintoists as well were much moved. I hope to be able to meet them again soon. They have invited me to speak again in March.

May the Lord grant us to make Him know to eveyone anywhere on this world. All really thirst for the Lord and I felt strongly that the time and various occasions are given us to work for the Kingdom of God and for His Glory. The Glory of God is the Living man: all of us who live in Christ will earn true joy, true peace, in particular when we can give our life for our brothers. The meeting started at 1 PM and lasted until 4 PM. We finished the meeting while reading all together the prayer: “Help me Father and lead me to Your pastures of repose, …”

May the Lord bless and protect His People
