The Beth Myriam in Malawi began distributing food packs to families in 2023.
In 2025, Sister Eva, who is responsible for the project, wrote that the social situation had been ‘a mixed bag’, with hunger pockets all over the country mixed with politics that saw a government devaluing the currency, provoking a sharp rise in prices. The lack of forex and fuel resulted in an endless cycle of misery for many; this extended to the point that when election time came in September that government was booted out.
The Beth Myriam food distribution started in Chiphole under the Mangochi diocese from February 2025 to April 2025, and then expanded to the Dedza villages. In December 2025, we completed the project at the Mua Mission where we helped the hospitalized sick during Christmas time. The Mua Mission Hospital is situated by the lake shore of Lake Malawi in the Central Region of Malawi.
At the beginning of the year it was difficult for us to find the usual 25 kg of flour needed, so we bought maize corn and had to bring it to the maize mill to make the maize flour. The beneficiaries were receiving around 35 kilograms of the flour.
Since November 2025, we have been under a new form of government; even though it hasn’t been easy to bring the high prices down, the volunteers managed to hold the hands of a few families that were assisted.
Sister Eva ended her letter with these words:
« We pray and hope that the harvest will be better this year; that we may need to help fewer people; that is our deep prayer. We acknowledge the difficulties in finding funds and wish we were able to help more people through the Beth Myriam, but we shall never forget the help you have given to Malawi. We hope that one day we will be able to make enough money so as to send contributions to Beth Myriam International to help our brothers and sisters in need. »

Feed one child
Every child deserves food. If you cannot feed 100 children, feed just one. With as little as $18 per month, a week’s worth of coffee, you can provide all that a child needs. Think of that. What good you will do to a soul with so little money.
Thank you for your loving interest and care towards feeding the poor and needy.
