May 2024
The Beth Myriam in Malawi began functioning in November 2023. Sister Eva Chifundo, who is responsible for the project, shares the story about 24 year old Fanny whom they have helped.
Fanny is married and has two children. She had her first child when she was 19 years old and therefore could not finish secondary school education; thus she became a housewife. During her second pregnancy, she was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus Erythematosis, which is an autoimmune condition. The mark for this condition is a butterfly rash on the face. She has been living with the sickness for the past five years. She is now a beneficiary of the Beth Myriam feeding program and has received meal packs on two occasions.
In January 2024 she decided to enroll at a technical school to study as an electrical installation technician so that she could work and provide for her family. On the 3rd of March 2024, her condition worsened and she was admitted at one of the major hospitals in Malawi until the 26th of march 2024 when she was discharged. As her remedy, she was prescribed immunomodulator medicines, which the major hospital did not have. She was also advised to go to a specialized hospital in Lilongwe that would cost her 300,000 mk. The family was stunned. They opted to bring her home and wait for the course the sickness will take. This is the plight of the poor in the villages who have chronic conditions. Fortunately, the sisters of the merciful heart of Mary managed to procure the drugs from their Lenten season savings for one month, with the help of a pharmacist friend who sent the medicine from the capital city of Lilongwe.
At the moment she is faring much better and will soon go back to her studies as an electrician. The program will continue assisting her with meal packs.
To God be the glory. Amen.
Feed one child
Every child deserves food. If you cannot feed 100 children, feed just one. With as little as $18 per month, a week’s worth of coffee, you can provide all that a child needs. Think of that. What good you will do to a soul with so little money.
Thank you for your loving interest and care towards feeding the poor and needy.
