Holy Land Beth Myriam report
The following report from the Holy Land Beth Myriam team is preceded by a recent message from Jesus which is the first to refer to the Beth Myriams by name.
Details of how to contribute to this activity can be found at the bottom of this mailing.
Now listen to Me and write these words:
establish Our Beth Myriams everywhere you can.
Lift the oppressed and help the orphan.
Protect Me, rescue Me from the gutter,
shelter Me and feed Me.
Unload My burden and fatigue;
support Me and encourage Me.
All that you do to the least of My brethren you do it to Me…
I bless the supporters of My life.
May they remain virtuous and all loving.
I am with you. IC
(Jesus, April 22, 2002)
Dear TLIG Family,
The above message from Jesus really encourages and motivates us anew to help all those who are in great neccessity. Thank you all so much for your continued support of the Beth Myriam work here in Jesus‘ Homeland. Many families are being saved from hunger and malnutrition with the delivery of foodboxes. New shoes and underwear are now also being distributed as needed, as people were very badly in need of same. ie We discovered some time ago that many children were not attending school because they had no shoes to wear.
Know that those families receiving foodboxes constantly tell us that this food is an answer to their prayers. They thank Heaven and pray for those who are so kindly donating to Beth Myriam.
These days the whole greater Bethlehem area is under Military Curfew and life continues to be extremely difficult. Once every 5 days approx. the Curfew is lifted for a few hours and people are allowed to leave their homes. It is a sobering experience to be on the streets during those few hours: the sick try to get to the hospital, families rush to bury their dead, weddings are hurriedly celebrated, everyone tries to get to the market/shops, the fortunate ones who may receive money from relatives abroad try to get to the bank, families try to visit each other etc. Everyone tries to do all of the usual weekly activities in a few hours – and it’s just not possible with such long queues of people everywhere. The desperation and widespread distress of trying to survive like this is palpable on the streets. Unfortunately this situation looks set to continue for at least several months.
We have had to adapt our Beth Myriam work to the extreme conditions as there is not enough time to assemble and deliver the foodboxes to all those families on our list. Now we base our work at the local shops. Our people in need meet there and the foodboxes are received there. For now this is just about working, thank God. With many more families now added to the list, we race against time to try to allow as many families as possible to receive food.
In Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity last week, (after a seven day delay due to the curfew) we attended the funeral of the landlady in whose house TLIG had it’s first home here in the Holy Land. The first TLIG Prayer Meetings were born there and the message of April 24th 1997 was received there by Vassula during a prayer meeting. Following a two week hospital stay in Jerusalem (during which time no one was able to visit her from Bethlehem with the curfew), she went to Our Lord. He truly showed His faithfulness in ensuring that she was taken care of by the small TLIG group here in her last days, in the absence of any family/friends from Bethlehem. Her final wish was to help the poor in the area. May she be blessed for her generosity and may she rest in peace.
Please join us in praying for a peaceful resolution of the current situation, that all those suffering are given the grace to endure these impossibly difficult days without descending into despair…….that all of God’s children living here in His homeland may live a normal life in peace.
